国連の「持続可能な開発のための2030アジェンダ」前文には次のように書かれています。 「私たちは、世界を持続可能で回復力のある軌道へと移行させるために緊急に必要とされる、 大胆かつ変革的な行動を起こすことを決意しています。この団体旅行の出発にあたり、 私たちは誰ひとり置き去りにしないことを誓います」。 環境問題は緊急課題ですが、人間を置き去りにするわけには行きません。 持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）の環境的次元（SDG6水、SDG7エネルギー、SDG11居住、SDG13気候、SDG14海、SDG15陸）と社会的次元（SDG1貧困、SDG2飢餓、SDG3健康、SDG4教育、SDG5ジェンダー、SDG8仕事、SDG10不平等）をいかに両立させるか。 言い換えれば、人間のウェルビーイングを達成しつつ環境問題を解決しなければならないのです。 両者は相乗効果を生む場合もありますが、対立する場合もあります。社会正義を損なわずに環境保護を実現することは可能か。 環境問題を考慮に入れた社会正義をいかに構想できるか。私たちはこうした事柄について、原理的かつ具体的に考えていきます。 例えば、どうすれば森林保全の仕事を持続可能なものにできるか。これはSDG8（働きがいのある人間らしい仕事）とSDG15（持続可能な森林の経営）が交差するテーマです。

The preamble to the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development states: “We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind.” Although environmental issues are urgent, we can’t leave people behind. How can we satisfy both of the environmental dimension (such as SDG6 Water, SDG7 Energy, SDG11 Livability, SDG13 Climate, SDG14 Oceans, and SDG15 Land) and the social dimension (such as SDG1 Poverty, SDG2 Hunger, SDG3 Health, SDG4 Education, SDG5 Gender, SDG8 Work, and SDG10 Inequality) of the Sustainable Development Goals? In other words, we have to solve environmental issues while achieving human well-being. The two can be synergistic, but they can also be in conflict. Is it possible to achieve environmental protection without compromising social justice? How can we conceptualize social justice that takes environmental issues into account? We will think about these issues in a fundamental and concrete way. For example, how can we make the work of forest conservation sustainable? This is a theme that intersects SDG8 (decent work) and SDG15 (sustainable forest management).
